Promising study of WULS-SGGW researchers on fighting tumors

Researchers from the Faculty of Animal Sciences of WULS-SGGW demonstrated that graphene can destroy cancer cells. The team of Professor Ewa Sawosz-Chwalibóg from the Department of nanobiotechnology discovered that graphene is adjacent to the tumor cell and forms a thin layer around it, cutting off the supply of oxygen and nutrients, leading to its death. Graphene not only kills cancer cells but can also be an excellent carrier of other substances.

Honorary doctorates of WULS-SGGW for outstanding scientists

A celebration of granting honoris causa doctorates will take place on May 23 at 11 a.m. in the Crystal Hall at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Two outstanding scientists will be distinguished with the honorary degrees: Professor Michele Jamiolkowski and Professor Wojciech Wolski. Professor Michele Jamiołkowski is an outstanding scholar in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnics and Professor Wojciech Wolski is a distinguished scholar in the field of geotechnicsl and hydrotechnics.


Furniture manufacturing – new programme of studies

Furniture manufacturing is a new programme of studies which will be launched at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in the academic year of 2014/15. Sixty people will be admitted to the programme in October.


WULS-SGGW Open University started

Warsaw University of Life Sciences launched the Open University, which is a form of lifelong learning for all people interested in deepening their knowledge and skills. The students can choose from among 50 various courses.


Veterinary Research Centre created in WULS-SGGW

A Veterinary Research Centre was created at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. It is a complex of laboratories equipped with the most modern apparatus. In the Veterinary Research Center at WULS-SGGW, primary research aimed at solving current problems relevant to the field of biomedical and veterinary research will be conducted, as well as implementation studies will take place. The opening of the Veterinary Research Centre was inaugurated by Professor dr hab. Alojzy Szymański, the Rector of WULS-SGGW, dr Marek Sawicki, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Professor dr hab. Zdzisław Gajewski, the Director of the Department of Large Animals Diseases with the Clinic, the Director of the Project: Instrumentation, Veterinary Research Centre.


WULS-SGGW to receive over 3 mln PLN for the protection of the European bison

The Faculty of Animal Sciences of WULS-SGGW will receive 3.3 million PLN for the project "Development of the European bison metapopulation in the north-eastern Poland." The money will come from the so-called Norwegian funds. The value of the project, which the university will implement together with foresters and with the Białowieża National Park, will amount to 3.8 million PLN.


INNAUGURATING THE CELEBRATION OF THE 200th ANNIVERSARY

In 2016 it will be 200 years since the Agronomic Institute in Marymont, the progenitor of Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW started agricultural education in Poland. WULS-SGGW inaugurated the 200th anniversary celebrations with a solemn Ball, which took place on 1 March 2014 at the Crystal Hall of Warsaw University of Life Sciences.


PhD Krystyna Oracz – a winner of the Polish-French Program POLONIUM 2014/15

On the 10th January 2014’, the Polish-French Committee for Program POLONIUM has chosen 22 projects which will be financed for years 2014/15. This program created at the initiative of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs includes research projects, agreed between Polish and French research teams.


Mini kiwi – an extraordinary fruit introduced to cultivation by WULS-SGGW researchers

The researchers from Warsaw University of Life Sciences produced and introduced to cultivation a new species of fruit in the Polish market. Actinidia is the name of the fruit.
