Warsaw University of Life Sciences has started the new academic year

This year, through the recruitment process, the university offered 35 courses of study, including a new course: furniture studies. Despite the demographic low, the enrolment for full-time studies  surpassed the level of the previous year by 100 people. There has been however a decline in interest in extramural studies, particularly in the second degree studies. Eight thousand students started their education at the first year. A total of 28 000 people studies at the university, including 25 500 engineering and M.Sc. students, 540 doctoral students and more than 2 200 participants in post-graduate studies.  In addition, over 700 people explore knowledge at the Julian Niemcewicz University of the Third Age at WULS-SGGW.

Prof. dr hab. Alojzy Szymański, the Rector of WULS-SGGW, in his inauguration speech indicated the advantages of our university, stressing that WULS-SGGW is an academic university, which focuses on the development of research. “We are more and more strongly engaged in the projects realized from the structural and international funds” – said the Rector Szymański.

"In the past year, our university research teams implemented 21 projects from structural funds for a total amount of over 135 million PLN, more than 70 international research projects, which is 20% more than the previous year, of a value of over 27 million PLN,
27 international didactic projects with a total budget of 5.5 million Euro. Ninety-three research grants were financed from national funds and the National Center for Science and Development for a total amount of over 40 million PLN. Based on the four recently settled contests, we will sign four more agreements in the Programme for Applied Research that total nearly 9 million PLN.
In three of them, WULS-SGGW will be the leader
 "- said Professor Alojzy Szymański.

The Rector A. Szymański also stressed the importance of international cooperation for students and for the development of science. "In all areas of our activity, international cooperation is crucially important. We collaborate with 250 partners from various continents. During the past year, the university was visited by more than 200 guests, including a large group of visiting professors. More than 50 international conferences were organized, and in the area of didactics,  seven programmes in English are carried out. The  number of foreign students studying at WULS-SGGW rose to 600, and for the first time it exceeded the number of students of our university going abroad "- said Professor Szymański.

Speaking directly to students, the Rector A. Szymański said, among other: "Our attention was also focused on the activities of a social nature. One of them is to ensure the academic community has better medical care provided by the WULS-SGGW Nonpublic Healthcare, which is currently used by more than 6000 people. Efforts are being made to broaden the scope of medical services for specialized care. Bearing in mind the youngest employees, students and doctoral students, we are renovating and modernizing student dormitories and the Assistant’s House, and tomorrow the WULS-SGGW Nonpublic Nursery School will be opened
